Friday Sevilla to Grenada to Costa del Sol

Friday we slept late with a 9:40 departure from the hotel. The drive to Grenada was beautiful. Olive trees are absolutely everywhere and there are rugged mountains. The most southern ski resort in Europe was is there.

The primary attraction today was touring the Moorish palace Alhambra. We were lucky to have tickets (the other groups on our bus didn’t) and this was definitely a highlight of the trip. In addition to being fantastically beautiful, this place was full of historical significance.  Granada was the last city held by the Moors in the reconquista.  The peace treaty was signed in the throne room we visited in 1492.  Later that year Queen Isabella gave Christopher Columbus funding for his voyage in the same room. And we stood there.  The palace was unoccupied for 100 years and fell into disrepair. It’s been fully restored now with beautiful gardens and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
